Review of There Be Dragons (2011) by Rommel L — 12 Nov 2011
Watch "There Be Dragons." A very beautiful movie. Makes you think that it is somewhat like a movie next to "The Passion of the Christ". Super loaded with beautiful lessons! Honestly, I did not read critics' review before watching this because just as I anticipated they either hate the lessons on love, forgiveness and the value of living or they simply hate St. Josemaria Escriva, Opus Dei and the Catholic Church.
The movie is titled as such as it alludes to an ancient way of denoting in maps a place where there is danger, or an unknown place, a place to be explored. "Hic sunt dracones" as it is labelled in the map or in English, Here there be dragons.
This allusion is exemplified in the movie as it speaks of deepest recesses of our hearts, where there be dragons, to chart it and explore it in order for us to live to our Christian calling of becoming saints whoever we are and how ordinary or simple the things we might do in life.
St. Josemaria Escriva's life and witness helped his childhood friend to go to that unchartered place and face his redemption.
It is a beautiful movie. A must see! I would rather spend my money on this movie over and over again than on some worthless movie about a vampire and werewolf love triangle.
