Review of Then She Found Me (2007) by Louise G — 20 Sep 2008
Slightly strange movie. Not funny enough to be a rom-com, or dark enough to be a drama. Still quite enjoyable if you ignore its identity crisis.
Helen Hunt clearly put a lot of work into this film, and I think that more women directors in Hollywood can only be a good thing, but it might have helped if she'd taken a bit of a step back and cast someone more age-appropriate as the lead. (Also when Colin Firth is telling her how gorgeous she is, it's difficult not to remember that she wrote these words for him to say to her and then told him how to say them. It's a little jarring.).
Colin Firth and Bette Midler were both terrific (is Colin Firth ever anything else?) and it was a nice, heart-warming story. Not bad, but not great either.
