Review of Thelma & Louise (1991) by Josh G — 22 Feb 2010
'Thelma & Louise' is the most emotionally film that I've seen of the year 1991 of any film that came out that year I've seen, its soo amazing, it's a film by Ridley Scott. Basically the film is about Louise is working in a fast food restaurant as a waitress and has some problems with her friend Jimmy, who, as a musician, is always on the road. Thelma is married to Darryl who likes his wife to stay quiet in the kitchen so that he can watch football on TV. One day they decide to break out of their normal life and jump in the car and hit the road. Their journey, however, turns into a flight when Louise kills a man who threatens to rape Thelma. They decide to go to Mexico, but soon they are hunted by American police. The Movie Tagline is "Somebody said get a life... so they did" which is a great tagline for the movie because it really show the two women life of being free and to do whatever they want. The Trailer is very cool, while I love seeing the light texture colours in the trailer & show that it's a great film to be seen (which it was and am glad that I've seen it twice) & the Poster show the picture of Thelma & Louise (Geena & Susan) on their journey out to the south of America (in the USA), which is a beautiful poster that show a lot of meaning to the Movie and its brilliant captivating.
The Film has won or been nominated for many know awards such as Oscars, BAFTA Film Award, Golden Globe, MTV Movie awards & many more while Callie Khouri won; Best Screenplay - Motion Picture: Callie Khouri for Golden Globe & Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
Callie Khouri for Oscar's (in 1992 for all awards).I through that Best Director Ridley Scott, Best Actress in a Leading Role Susan Sarandon & Best Actress in a Leading Role Geena Davis should have different there Oscars (while Susan & Geena good be tied because there were both on the same level as fanatics acting in the Movie), while the Cinematography was terrific as well for the film.
The Film is Mind-Blowing lye emotionally, it's got really sexy/sassy music/ background sound to the film (abit like The Blade Runner music but more western then techno-classic in this film with abit of southern music also (don't like as much), it start out about Thelma & Louise boring life style & turns into a rollercoaster adventure, The 124 minutes (two hours & two minute) to bring you to a payoff that the filmmakers seem to fear about (If it doesnâ??t go well ), it's the greatest 2 hour girly/Drama film ever made in the early 90's (1991) and that Decade (1990-2000) (In my eyes), The type/genre of the film Drama, Crime, Thriller & adventure with bad-ass humor is brilliant in every-way it should be (It hints all the right places in the movie), The southern accent are really well done by the actors; The director is fanatics well director-ed & style & theme very well, I love the bit were Susan Sarandon as Louise shots that fucking rapist and it is a fabulous girly gripping drama-cop chase of the 90's (1991) & decade (1990-2000). The Movie itself shows some really great scenario, iconic, brilliant & breath-taking site's in southern American and makes me soo want to go on a journey round there soo I can see it in person, the vacation was meant to be a 3-day weekend & doing fishing, but when short a dickhead of a rapist & there whole life's changed upside down its an up & down rollercoaster of a terrific journey, it's a brilliant cross-country road journey, I love that sexy/Hot Sexy scene between Brad Pitt & Geena Davis characters, a very funny film with unique funny element towards the film & has prefect little fight scene & Intelligent, clever & witty Movie, I love the main tune of the film is always ace to hear & it stick right through me (all the time), I love where they tech that pervert & blow up his tank lorry (stupid twat that derived it) and the film is Utley brilliant, charming, thrilling, wonderful and is one of the best films I've seen of Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis & Director Ridley Scott.
The Movie was made on a budget of $ 16,500,000 (which isnâ??t bad); while Box Office worldwide was $82,654,415 which was a huge hit at the time and had a solid VHS, DVD sales & rental (while begging the number 1 ladies choice of a drama/friendship girly Movie). The film was a huge critical success and was highly positive or critically acclaimed with the critics, audience and Fans alike (for the director, style, theme, actors or just for the genre), as some critic say this is Ridley Scott best drama film heâ??s ever made. The film has been distributed by MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc-in Cinema and VHS & DVD), While Warner Bros. Home Entertainment share the film with MGM on VHS & DVD.
The Film cast line-up is aswome starting; the two sexy/fabulous ladies Susan Sarandon as Louise Elizabeth Sawyer & Geena Davis as Thelma Yvonne Dickinson, as they were the two perfect ladies to play there character (I Think), while having a great cast like; Harvey Keitel as Detective Hal Slocumb, Michael Madsen as Jimmy Lennox, Christopher McDonald as Darryl Dickinson, Stephen Tobolowsky as Max, Timothy Carhart as Harlan, Brad Pitt as J.D (in his first major role) and the rest of the cast which were pretty brilliant. Ridley Scott was the right choice to director this film (best director for this type of film), he made it come to life (also the actors/cast did too), he is a brilliant genius film-maker and has put Thelma & Louise as the best 1991 film or the Decade (1990-2000) & cinema emotionally Movie ever made in my eyes and has brand this Movie as an instant classic like with his long list of either amazing films he's done (Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Thelma & Louise (1991), Gladiator (2000), Hannibal (2001), American Gangster (2007) & many others, while him and his younger brother film director Tony Scott are the best legend Hollywood Brother director of our time (I love both of their work, both of them have made such great films).
Overall the Movie is soo upsetting and about what friendship is all about and the ending gave me as the best ending in this type of movie ever made of a genius girly movie that also gave me goose-bumps and thinking what madness would you go for, for your friends as its breath-taking and also were there is at least 50-60 Police cars after them and it's like a huge panic/heart-racing weather there going to make it or not, while you see them going for the end as Geena Davis characters says "Let's not get court, let's just keep going, GO!" I love it a tear-jerking quote, but it heart breaking that they kill them self, while having flashback of the start of the film at the end credits, it is truly a memorable ending of a film and I love it, the film has been parody in the earliest Simpson episode, I prays the cast performance & especial Susan Sarandon as Louise Elizabeth Sawyer & Geena Davis as Thelma Yvonne Dickinson as they were the prefect choice's for their characters roles and were mind-blowing. The Film is a different MUST-SEE girly Movie with perfect little gem acting, directing & style/theme of the Movie is a knock out Movie that you must see before you die, while its different for the women of all ages (just not kids-girls yet), but is different for the lad weather he's gay or not it's an enjoyable long Movie, but is different for teenagers, adults & old people. This film is Classic, Masterpiece & an Epic Movie written all over it, it's one of the best and it never gets old it just speechless stuff. Lv it!!
(In the alternate ending you can see more of how it happens (when they drive of the cliff), but then it looks like they savouries as the car the drives down the southern courtiers lane in the desert, while the bounce features on the DVD are great stuff.).
