I have never read the book nor heard of this story. so perhaps I had low expectations, but I thought it was a good story that was well acted. I personally am glad that they still make films about this important time in history because I think the people need to be reminded just how controlling a government can be if you allow them too much power.
Kids today need to see these films so they can be thankful for what they have and appreciate how hard life was for people - and still is around the world for many. A nice break from the typical junk put out by the movie industry.
I highly recommend everyone watch this with their kids. I am sure in real life this story was much more horrific than the film depicts, but because it is not too violent ...it is safe for viewing with your kids.
