More of a romantic drama than historical epic, the film is a visual delight, showcasing superior set pieces and costumes, as well as solid performances from the likes of Emily Blunt in the title role, Rupert Friend as Prince Albert, Paul Bettany as Lord Melbourne, and Miranda Richardson as the Duchess of Kent.
But the subject matter demands more substance in the screenplay to be fully rewarding.
