Review of The Young Victoria (2009) by Naomi H — 13 May 2012
Blunt buds and blooms as the steadfast, naive and utterly endearing Victoria.
A delicately delivered insight into the assumption of agency and the ascension into womanhood. Guided by a rich, dramatic score and adorned with lavish yet unimposing scenery, this refined portrait of a quest for acceptance and liberty captivates and engages: balancing our insight into the public and private spheres. Much like his protagonist, director Jean-Marc Vallà (C)e exemplifies the beauty of striking a perfect balance between the heart and mind.
