Review of The Young and the Damned (1950) by Peter H — 18 May 2008
Brilliant social commentary by Bunuel, a study of the life of street children in Mexico City. A comment on how lack of trust and care is created by poverty while in turn reproducing both poverty and criminal behavior among the young; and how capitalist and bourgeois society fails to address the underlying roots of the problem, despite, in some cases, well-meaning intentions.
A fatalist, pessimistic and depressing movie that nevertheless carries an important message.
