Review of The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) by Samantha S — 24 Jan 2010
I'm looking at going to Indonesia in the next few years, Lord willing. This was a good movie to see to get a feel of what things may look like there and to learn a little bit about Indonesia's more recent history. The dwarf lady who's now on NCIS: Los Angeles [Linda Hunt] did a pretty good job playing a man. Mel Gibson is great in one of his earliest movies. Sigourney Weaver is very beautiful and, not to mention, a very good actress. She does very well in this movie. The director, Peter Weir, has done some other really good movies [Witness, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World]. Just a great movie all around.
Did you know? This movie was banned from Indonesia for it's political charge against then President/ Dictator Sukarno until the year 2000, two years after Sukarno stepped down from power and Indonesia became a free, representative-parliamentary country.
