Review of The Yards (2000) by Allan C — 06 Apr 2013
A good cast (Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Charlize Theron, James Caan, Ellen Burstyn, Faye Dunaway, Steve Lawrence, Tomas Milian, Victor Argo) and a nicely moody atmosphere are wasted with a dull script and bland characterizations.
The main reason I was curious about this film was that it was written by Drew Goddard, a former Buffy/Angel writer and more recently the director co-writer of the excellent "Cabin in the Woods," but sadly it was pretty disappointing.
Maybe I'll blame co-writer/director, who'd previously made the good "Little Odessa," which though good was also something of a mixed bag.
