Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Rotten T — 18 Jun 2011
I can use one word to describe this film, Brutal. Could be called one of the most depressing films ever made, however who is actually victorious is open to discussion. Aronofsky likes to make his films as realistic as possible, which is why he does not hold back on the violence, sex, and nudity.
However he relies on his actors to bring the characters to life, Mickey Rourke does not falter for one moment, he had me close to tears a couple of times. Marissa Tomei is a great actress who gets made fun of a lot, but she's one of my favorites.
Evan Rachael Wood is also quite good with limited screen time. The wrestler is living proof that you don't need billions of dollars to make a good movie, I recommend it to anyone who can handle it.
