Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Aslyn E — 14 Aug 2011
One of the saddest films about. This pulls at your heart strings following the tragic scenario that Randy "The Ram" Robinson finds himself in. Once a legend in the ring, the gigs have dried up and old age is kicking in.
The money he made was obviously pissed up the wall and his daughter hates him. His life is a wreck with the exception of when he is fighting, then he is a God to a small audience of super-hardcore wrestling fans.
Micky Rourke absolutly nails it in what is one of the best individual acting performances in the last 10 years. I felt his pain boy!! The fight are uneasy, you see these guys really hurt themselves in for entertainment and a thin pay packet, they are being exploited.
It is a bit of a one-note film but when it's done this well who cares.
