I should always refrain from my initial impressions when it comes to an Edgar Wright film. I don't think I understood the scale of genius that Shawn of the Dead displayed on first watch, and I rather enjoyed Scott Pilgrim until going over the books and watching it again. First impressions are not always as reliable when it comes to a director as seemingly meticulous as this one, indeed.

That being said, this review is of my first impressions of the Worlds End and those impressions are not wholly positive, and probably echo what so many other people are critiquing this film for. It is, honestly, not as good as it's predecessors in the Cornetto trilogy. The jokes aren't here, the cleverness is worn and it's plainly not as engaging as Shawn and Hot Fuzz. That being said, I did enjoy the Worlds End despite it not quite living up to expectation and I'd happily give it an almost four out of five stars.

It's just such a damn shame, I hope that this isn't the death knell of the Wright, Pegg and Frost brilliance.
