Review of The World's End (2013) by Darian T — 05 Apr 2014
Rating: 5.5/10.
I would have liked to give this film a higher rating as I am a fan of Pegg/Frost's previous films and also of British humour, but there are just too many areas here where the film sank when it should have soared.
--------------------------.
Plot/Direction: 1.5/3.
The story is simplistic, and while the twist in the middle makes it slightly more interesting, the resolution is lame--like half of all the film's jokes. All in all, it's pretty similar to last year's "The Watch.".
Cast/Acting: 1.5/3.
Nick Frost plays the straight man this time, in contrast to Simon Pegg's goofball character...the idea alone already seems funny; unfortunately in practice, their performances come out as a bit forced to me.
Production/Effects: 1.5/3.
There aren't many effects; what little there was wasn't impressive. (I wonder which company did the rotoscoping? It's so crappy ;P ).
Special/Other: 1/1.
It's good to see Frost and Pegg team up again, even though this film doesn't measure up to their previous efforts. +1 for the nostalgia.
