Review of The World's End (2013) by Tom S — 04 May 2014
Toward the end, struggles to communicate what it's really about-corporate satire? Homage to apocalyptic cinema? I can't say the latter works because up until the last thirty minutes "The World's End" is actually strikingly original such that it makes homage unnecessary.
A spiritual successor to David Cronenberg's "Shivers," it's most powerful in conveying the social pressures to conform-the title is quite serious, and the idea of "Blanks" is provocative and pertinent.
It's tempting to wish the film had taken its ending more seriously, yet I can't escape the sense that Wright and co. might just be more clever than me.
