Review of The World of Suzie Wong (1960) by Private U — 14 Feb 2008
Nancy Kwan gives a remarkable performace and brings life and depth to the Suzie Wong character. Her chemisty with Holden is captivating and the Hong Kong setting is enjoyable to see. I came to really care about the Suzie character and enjoyed seeing her in "her world.
" It was fun seeing her dance with the sailors and how full of life and confidence she appeared to have on the surface, but later it is revealed she yearns for real love when her relationship with Robert grows.
It was touching and some scenes really struck a chord emotionally. Favorite scene: Robert has to tell Suzie sad news about a man she is seeing.
