Review of The World of Apu (1959) by Ricardo O — 22 Sep 2009
Beautiful film. Fantastic ending to what I might now call THE greatest trilogy of all time. The Apu Trilogy. Sorry Godfather but I think this series just beat you, each film is a masterpiece where only the first two Godfather films are masterpieces.
I'm not gonna call this the best in the series but to me it at least matches the first film Pathet Panchali.
For those that have seen the film from the '90s Mi Familia (My Family) may recognize some of the story because the last half of this film directly inspired the last half of that one.
Such an uplifting ending to this fantastic series. These films are essential to watch if you truly appreciate film and what can be done with it. I've gotten a bit interested in reading the two novels the films are based on.
