Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Xiao-Feng Z — 10 Jan 2010
I would consider this the second best Bond film after Casino Royale. The plot is suspenseful enough to not lose the rigor. All the Bond girls in this movie are quite attractive, especially Sophie Marceau. Of course, what made this movie enjoyable were also the jokes, which were more corny than other Bond films. Here are few of my favourites:
Bond: I was wrong about you.
Dr. Jones: Yeah? How so?
Bond: I thought Christmas only comes once a year.
Ms. Moneypenny: James! Have you brought me a souvenir from your trip? Chocolates? An engagement ring?
Bond: I thought you might enjoy one of these.
[gives Ms. Moneypenny a cigar tube].
Ms. Moneypenny: How romantic. I know exactly where to put that.
[throws the cigar tube in the garbage].
Bond: Oh Moneypenny, the story of our relationship: close, but no cigar.
Bond: ...A shadow operation?
M: ...Remember 007, shadows always remain in front or behind... never on top.
Julietta the Cigar Girl: Would you like to check my figures [points to the money amount on the statement]?
James Bond: [eyes her up and down] Oh, I'm sure they're perfectly rounded.
