Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Andrew C — 18 May 2008
An astonishingly careful performance from Kevin Bacon, playing a paedophile released after 12 years' incarceration, in a film that slowly builds up moment by moment to a logical, thoughtful conclusion.
While Bacon's character Walter is flawed, to a degree unsympathetic, some focus is placed on how the police and psychiatists, by constantly requiring him to relive and re-examine his crime and his desires, make it all the more difficult for Walter to properly move on and complete his rehabilitation.
An excellent, adult piece of film making.
