Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Bill N — 18 May 2009
"When will I be normal?".
I liked it b/c it got into the head of the character a little bit and his addiction. He took himself out of the whole context of what is right or wrong. He lost control, no longer had the power of choice, and is not free to stop. It became progressively addictive and destructive.
"What's the worst thing you ever did?".
He was full of guilt, self-hatred, remorse, emptiness, and pain, driven ever inward, away from reality, away from love, lost inside ourselves.
And in walks Mos Def. Wow.
This movie has the weirdest characters and set-ups, dang. But it is good.
Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon sizzle and shine.
Benjamin Bratt has his moment with Kevin Bacon.
Hannah Pikes and Kevin Bacon just blow me away.
Eve did well as did David Alan Grier who I don't know if it was more his performance or his character that I liked.
Mos Def and Kevin Bacon just trip me out. But also bring the resolution that I was looking for.
"Do you believe in Fairy Tales?
What's that one with the Woodsman?
The Woodsman, he cuts open the wolf's stomach and the little girl come out alive...
Little Red Riding Hood! That's it! That's it. The Woodsman, he cuts open the wolf's stomach, the girl comes out without a scratch...".
