Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Love M — 07 Mar 2011
Excellent directing by nicole kassell. this film has a quietude and intensity that reaches deep into the core of a serious issue. every member of the cast turns in complicated, nuanced and powerful performances.
walter (bacon) returns from many years in prison having been convicted as a pedofile. he attempts to construct a normal life while tentatively trying to accept and then change his abhorrent natural tendencies.
there are tragic and uncomfortable moments as the story is told without sensationalism or judgement, leaving the audience to just feel without being directed towards superficial response. it possesses a brutally honest narrative.
highly recommended.
