At the time the most terrifying film I'd seen. A TV movie based on Susan Hill's chiller, the story is strong and gripping. Dennis Bergkamp leads a non-star cast to deliver a succession of worthy set-pieces.
The Woman In Black herself is wisely used sparingly and whenever she can be seen, even in the background, I get the willies. The scene when she lowers herself onto the main guy on the bed after the toy soldiers have appeared will make you shit yourself.
So James it hurts, the magic was almost lost when Jack said it was terrible.
