" Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prays by night may become a wolf when the wolfbaine blooms and the autum moon is bright" really set the mood to this so called modern greek tragdy.
in a way for a horror film it is sort of a Greek tradgy with the tragic plight of inocent soul larry taylbt how is acident bitten by a wolf and becomes a victum of the curse of the werewolf. For a horror film the viewers heart in some way gose out to larry due to him being an everyman caracter.
The potryal of Larry is done in a brilliant way by Lon Chaney Jr ( son of the great actor Lon Chaney) also the rest of the cast are terrific in thier roles inculding Claude Regins as sir john and Bela lugosi in the small role of bela.
Although this is not the first true werewolf film it did invet the idea that werewolf can only be killed by something silver and under a full moon becomes a wolf which has been ingraved into popular culture ever since.
On a final note the movie has a sort of dream like quality with the woods filled with fog under a full moon. 100/100 a benchmark in horror film history coutrosy of Unievrsal studios.
