Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Sarfaraz A — 01 Mar 2012
The Wolf Man, is said to be a movie which would set patterns for how werewolf movies would follow. Ron Chaney Jr. plays Larry Talbot 'The Wolf Man' and Claude Rains as Sir John. Talbot. Ron Chaney Jr.
puts in great performance, he disappears into the role quite magnificently. Of all the actors cast in the film, Ron Chaney has delivered wonderful performance. Cinematography work by Joseph Valentine, ensures that murkier set-designs fills in need for keeping authoritarian thrill of the dark town of Lalnwelly.
It was naive of me, that I watched 2010 remake earlier, than this, I find remake totally a rubbish movie, except that I found Benicio del Toro's performance quiet appealing; watching Chaney's performance, I vividly recall Toro's performance almost well-balanced.
It is just 70min movie, and we witness lots happening in this short duration, for which I would praise Curt Siodmak for writing screenplay so artistically that George Waggner had no difficulty at all directing a fine picture.
A must watch film for monster-movie lovers!
