Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Robb J — 29 Oct 2008
Lon Chaney Jr. plays a love-lorn loner who tries to win the heart of a small-town girl (who is already engaged!) - his character oozes the smell of tragic loser through his pores & the fact his character's family own the small town... well that makes it even sadder. The big event in town as Mr. Chaney JR. is chasing engaged skirt is the arrival of some gypsies, one of which is suffering from the curse of the Werewolf.
This movie lacks the tragedy & pathos of Frankenstein & the great presence of Dracula but it's ace in the hole is the great make-up effects, as has already been said. Not the best Universal monster movie but it's a must have in any classic horror fan's collection.
