Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Dustin G — 08 Apr 2010

I didn't see the new Wolf Man, but I can say without having seen it there's no way it's better than the original. I went in expecting schlock cheesy b-movie silliness and was treated to a great surprise with how well made this actually is.

First of all the acting is top notch by Lon Chaney Jr. and Claude Rains. The atmosphere is effective and perfect (this is a really cool looking movie). And the story is brief but involving the whole way through. It's great seeing how old monster movie filmmakers got around the fact that they didn't have CGI at their disposal and had to film things organically, which, as we all know, takes more talent than CGIing things to life, and I'll take organic, less realistic effects over ultra realistic CGI any day of the week baby.
