Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Tim R — 21 Jul 2013
I enjoyed the performances in this film, it's just unfortunate that at 70 minutes they don't give enough time to really let them shine. Chaney is wonderful as the cocky son returning home and very good as the tortured man who realizes the curse he has after being bitten who can't get anyone else to take it seriously.
But even with that the film hints at a father/relationship that goes nowhere and the loss of a brother that is nothing more than a reason for Larry Talbot (Chaney) to have come home. Their also isn't nearly enough time to really build the dread hanging over the town of the wolf attacks.
Also it's kind of weird how the first werewolf is clearly a full wolf but then for some reason Talbot is just a kind of hairy "thing". A lot of potential here but alas to much of it is wasted to make this more than a simple creature feature.
