Review of The Witches of Eastwick (1987) by Stephen M — 29 Mar 2008
I've seen it a hundred times. It's hard to not see it a hundred times; especially for a gay boy who worships his divas and gets a movie with three of them all at once. So, yeah, I've seen it a hundred times and love the girls.
Here's my secret, though:
I don't get it.
I don't get the story. Why are they the witches? Have they always been witches and just needed the devil to flick their on switch? Are they witches away from each other or is it a "power of three" kind of thing?
There is a lot of magic in the film and in the performances and I love that: but I have so many unanswered questions. Frankly, if I wanted to deal with so many questions and answers I would have read the book but I am not a fan of that author's work.
I'll give it three stars for the women but not for the movie and not for Nicholson.
And I will give it a fourth star, all for Veronica Cartwright.
