More historically accurate than most films of this genre, The Witch is laced with psychological terror. Good period dialogue and uniformly excellent performances made this a particularly frightening film.
Don't expect the usual cliches, though. This is a fairly brainy film, and requires patience to let the suspense and the helplessness of the characters build into a curiously scary film.
