Review of The Witch (2016) by Diego L — 02 Jul 2016
As I scroll down the users' ratings, I'm saddened to see what the general public constitutes as a good horror movie and what doesn't. If you're a fan of the sub-par movies that Hollywood pumps out, chock-full of jump scares to tell you you're watching a spooky movie, stay out. The Witch is not for you.
The director did an amazing job of making this movie as detailed as possible. The use of natural lighting, time-orientated clothing AND dialect all help paint a vivid picture of 17th century Puritans and the effect that witchcraft and superstition had on them.
If you like movies that crawl under your skin from the slow-rising dread, if you like creepy atmosphere achieved by the actors' and actresses' great performances, this may be for you. The payout itself is horrifying and it will stay with you long after you leave the movie theater.
