Più che un film, The Witch è un esperienza fiabesca reale ed inquietante. Il regista Robert Eggers, al suo debutto alla regia con un lungometraggio, stupisce lo spettatore con un atmosfera cupa e disturbante, una trama lineare, una fotografia ben curata e scenografie e costumi perfetti.
Il reale e la fantasia si intrecciano dall'inizio alla fine e non si riesce a capire quale dei due aspetti faccia più paura. Un piccolo gioiello nel mondo degli horror a basso budget che sicuramente darà notorietà ad un regista emergente.
