Review of The Witch (2016) by Dann M — 25 Jul 2016
An absolutely fantastic horror film with superb acting and directing. The film is a period piece drama about a family slowly tearing apart that was unfortunately marketed as a horror film which is unfortunate.
The acting is superb especially from the actress who plays Thomasin and the actor who plays the father who are both just superb. There film is a masterclass in creating tension as the film gets more and more tense throughout.
The film is dripping with atmosphere and dread which is greatly increased by the superb music. While this film is amazing at building tension there is unfortunately little pay off. Overall The Witch is a superb film with outstanding directing, acting, music and cinematography.
The chilling disturbing imagery and superb film making makes this one of 2016's best although it is dissapointing if you are expecting a horror film as this isn't really one. A-.
