Review of The Witch (2016) by Graham W — 04 Sep 2016
Quite honestly one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. My heart was beating so fast the person behind me had to ask me to quiet down. It's a quiet, dreadful, disturbing and nearly abstract film that got under my skin and refuses to go away, no matter how much Lysol I drink.
I imagine a lot of people will be frustrated with this film - especially the thousands of people flocking to the theater expecting to see your average horror film. Instead they're gonna get a slow, unconventional, thought-provoking film. The only complaints I've seen people have with 'The Witch' is that its 'boring', so I guess that kind of gives an idea at the people who say this movie sucks.
I don't know. Just as I was starting to grow concerned about horror films, 'The Witch' comes along and makes everything right. The performances are top-notch, the music is disturbing and beautiful, the screenplay is wonderfully written and creative, the production design is completely convincing and the cinematography and directing are both on point.
'The Witch' is everything I wanted it to be - one of the only movies to live up to my impossible expectations. See this movie if you like movies.
