Review of The Witch (2016) by Tor M — 23 Nov 2017
I rearly watch horror flicks, but this one seemed nice. Like something different and well produced. It's sat in New England in the 1630s. Some spooky stuff is going on, an infant disappears. Naturally it must be witchcraft, the only real explanation back then. The little family, consisting of mom, dad and now the four remaining kids are looking into a harsh winter, they're crops are bad so food will be a problem. There are not much light or positivity here.
This is a grim film. Bleak and ugly at times. It's few jump scares, I'm glad. It's filled with great music to complete the atmosphere, it's really bonechilling at times. Tha father and the oldest girl are especially great actors here, the rest is all right.
After some build up, that I found a bit hard to pay total attention too, the story really evolves and the tension is really strong at times. It's turning very psychological in a very great matter and the total result is a solid paranoia themed horror - one of the very best the last few years.
6.5 out of 10 hares.
