Review of The Witch (2016) by Damian S — 25 Apr 2018
As someone who doesn't like horror flicks, this one was great. No jump scares, not a gratuitous amount of gore, foreboding and ominous atmosphere, fresh concepts, and truly interesting characters with complex motives.
I also loved the unique setting - we rarely get to see the pilgrim era portrayed. The ending felt a little dissatisfying - *SPOILER WARNING* I'm not convinced the girl would abandon everythinG AT THE END AND WILLINGLY BECOME EVIL AFTER SEEING WHAT THE DEVIL HATH WROUGHT IN HER FAMILY.
I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE A CLEARER MESSAGE IN THE END, ALTHOUGH MEANING IS HINTED AT.
