The Witch is a mix of Salem, Blair Witch, Babadook, Antichrist, and a dash of The Exorcist. Like Babadook the ending had me puzzling whether it's meant to be a metaphor or taken literally, which is likely intentional.
I can see how The Witch didn't work out for people who expected it to be more of a popcorn flick because the pace is slow and dialogue is a bit tricky to understand at times. Definitely not a middlebrow flick.
