Review of The Wings of the Dove (1997) by Bertina Y — 31 Dec 2007
Thankfully, the plot on this one isn't as nefarious as the previews I'd seen of it made it look like. It was much more complex in terms of the relationship between Kate, Merton, and Millie. Solid performances all around.
Helena Bonham Carter can play these period piece roles in her sleep, and I think this is one of the first ones where she plays something other than the delicate flower of her earlier roles. Charlotte Rampling is onscreen only briefly, but she stands out with an intimidating, icy presence.
Beautiful scenes of Venice and a compelling story made for an entertaining movie all around.
