Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Wensi Z — 23 Feb 2008
Wonderful movie about Ireland's fight for independence. Its the first film by Ken Loach that I've seen and I loved it. He really brings the period to life with subtle realism and the performances are great. At times it felt like watching a documentary of a turning point in Irish history while passionate men and women debated the fate of their country. Cillian Murphy impresses me with each performance and this one is a great understated one.
It is such a refreshing and realistic story based on historical events...although fictitious, felt much more genuine than the Hollywoodised version we get in "Michael Collins".
