Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Dean A — 28 May 2008
A powerful (fictional) story about the early years of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) formed by a rag-tag set of young men who wouldn't stand by and watch the British oppress them.
The movie centers on 2 brothers, their struggle to find a common vision for their homeland, the challenges they face as leaders of a new nation negotiating terms of a historic treaty with the British and more importantly, the painful and intensely emotional decisions both of them have to make at the end of the movie. Boy what a climax!! Had it not been for my steely nature I would have shed a tear at the end of this movie.
Watch it abeg!!!
