Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Udara W — 28 Sep 2008
A deeply troubling and beautiful film that shows the true price of conflict. It's certainly not unbiased, but it's still incredibly powerful, featuring some marvelous performances, especially from Murphy. Considering the circumstances that still exist today, the tragic, unsatisfying ending is entirely appropriate.
And a word of warning - some of the accents in the film are nigh unto impenetrable. You do get used to them as it goes along, but I'd advise watching it with the subtitles, at least for the first viewing.
