Review of The Will to Fly (2016) by Adam S — 29 Mar 2016
FORGET sports documentaries, THIS FILM is one of the BEST DOCUMENTARIES... PERIOD. From the beautiful opening shot right through to the dramatic end, I was hooked. If you're a fan of inspirational films (ie. Rocky) this film is for you.
PROS...
-The story is Awe-inspiring. It chronicles Australian Olympic Champion Lydia Lassila's humble beginnings as a gymnast transitioning to aerial skiing. Her horrific ACL accident in 2006. Her dramatic return to win gold at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and finally her attempt to make history in 2014. If this film doesn't motivate you to chase your dreams, nothing will.
-The score is breathtaking. It helps put the audience into Lydia's shoes. We feel the pressure and anticipation for each of her jumps. We feel the emotion. Both the good and bad.
-The Cinematography is epic. Such beautiful scenery and jaw dropping shots that will leave you speechless.
CONS...
- The only con is that I can't buy it yet.
OVERALL...
The Will To Fly is a film that lingers in your mind long after you've left the theatre. After seeing the film, I felt like I knew Lydia and her family on a personal level. Above all, it motivates and inspires you to be better. To pursue your dreams and never give up no matter what life throws at you.
A perfect film in every way.
10/10.
***WARNING! After seeing The Will To Fly, you'll be counting down the days until the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
