Review of The Wild One (1953) by Private U — 24 Jul 2008
Brando in one of his iconic performances. Surprisingly, it really is acted well. Loosely based on the Hollister Motorcycle riot, Brando plays 'Johnny', a rough and tumble, tragically hip, angsty (or dare I say, Emo) young man who lives for himself.
A good movie to dissect, there are some defintie themes regarding Nihilism, the beat generation, classic rebel chic, and the epistemology of 'vaule.' There is more to the second place trophy than it seems.
Also, Lee Marvin provides unexpected comic relief.
