Review of The Wild Geese (1978) by Tommy M — 07 Oct 2007
Another one of those great 'Aging Lions' type of movies, this film features a bunch of former British Army soldiers hired by a multi-national to save a key African leader (while putting pressure on the military junta in charge of said leader's country).
Splendid performances by the cast in the classic, classy stoic style - no fast talking Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham machine gun dialogue and editing here - these guys don't need it anyway. A great supporting cast, particularly the tough Regimental Sergeant Major Sandy and the tough homosexual medic Witty - while I don't agree with his sexual choices I'm glad to see a gay character who's not made humorously pathetic or politically-correct righteous, particularly in this kind of movie.
A great merc movie altogether!
