Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Asif B — 20 May 2011
A classic western that defied all the known cliches that dominated the genre an that time and caused major controversies when it was originally released.
Although nowadays the violence and the realistic deaths may not sock the audience as they did 40 years ago, the film has been ripped off numerous times, especially the scene that leads to the final gunfight, one of the most beautiful intros in a action scene in the history of cinema.
The editing of the film is phenomenal, particularly the gunfights in the start and in the end of the film. The last 9minute scene has one of the best film editing ever in a movie.
Although I am a huge fan of Leone's westerns, and this film almost killed that type of filmmaking, I have big respect for what Peckinpah achieved in this film.
