Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Steve K — 21 Aug 2008
John Wayne said that he hated this film because it destroyed the myth of the old west. And that's a good thing. The reality of the old west was that it was messy and that a lot of the time the wrong people got killed.
The part where Ben Johnson shoots his ex-lover out of a jealous rage is a perfect example. Plus, how can you not love William Holden in this film? He really acts like he did in real life. You know. Drunk.
