Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by The Doctor John Kent — 08 Sep 2008
The movie is a technical achievement for the time in which it was made. But to me, the greatest resonance was the theme of time passing you by. Pike and his men could no longer do what they had always done to get by, the technology evolving - machine guns, cars - and their code of honor being replaced by people who would backstab you in a second.
As the "Wild West" was rapidly coming to an end, much as the time of love and peace was going to quickly be overturned by a time of violence, they struggled to stay alive and change with the times (getting out of being robbers), but instead they go out on their own terms. Highly recommended.
