The second best western ever made, perhaps? Peckinpah turned all the cliches on their ears. Women and children once pure symbols of the untouchable are shown in the exact opposite light. The movie is symbolic of the end of the western era just as the protagonists are at the end of their useful tenure.
Plus, it showed violence like it had never been seen before and has influenced every movie since.
