This movie with its special effects and gratuitous violence, was the ancestor of most of the Westerns to come, such as Unforgiven and the recent remake of 3:10 to Yuma. It really makes you understand how lawless the border has been for decades.

How little it has changed, as even today drug cartels and Mexican soldiers fire on the Border Patrol and commit atrocities in Texas border towns. At least back then we still had enough fortitude to send Pershing down there to lay down some smack.

Though the movie popularized the Colt 1911, ironically this gritty cult classic was partly responsible for the creation of the Single Action Shooting Society, the national cowboy shooting organization whose administrators call themselves "the Wild Bunch".

This review of The Wild Bunch (1969) was written by on 30 May 2009.

The Wild Bunch has generally received very positive reviews.
