Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Rod A — 16 Jul 2009
Graphically violent, this cynical yet noble western grapples with the meaning of honor and survival. Peckinpah chooses to show the seamier side of the west. William Holden is much coarser than John Wayne.
Whereas John Ford mythologized the values of the old west, Peckinpah acknowledges the ambiguity and brutality of it all. It's a thrilling film.
