Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Tim M — 21 Sep 2009
William Holden and Ernest Borgnine definitely steal the screen presence with their performances but the beginning and ending scenes rival them with their stylized and intricately edited filming. The story is good, but not great in my opinion.
This kind of western story is in some ways better seen in Butch and Sundance, though this one's photography and editing are definitely inspired. The middle seemed to lack some of this inspiration though as it doesn't quite match filmwise with the beginning and end.
Gritty and real it does invite interest and intrigue though not as great as many other westerns.
