Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Bill C — 06 Sep 2010
Infamous gang at large, posse lead by man on parole set up to bring them in, gang escape to Mexico, Bandits hire gang to hijack weapons train, a right hoe down.
Bloated, loud & competent Western from Sam Peckinpah with lots of gunplay, great stunts & heavy violence for 1969.
The gang are well portrayed lead by a wise William Holden & his smart sidekick Ernest Borgnine. Robert Ryan is also very good surrounded by his less than efficient posse.
As a big Sergio Leone fan, I found this a bit disappointing & lacked the feel that the Italian's films have. The music was a let down too making it feel like an episode of Bonanza at times.
Also, what's with all the OTT laughing? Far too many scenes of big laughs that went on far too long.
